UK Salary Calculator 2026: PAYE Tax, National Insurance & Take Home Pay
The UK tax system deducts income through Pay As You Earn (PAYE), which means your employer withholds tax and National Insurance contributions before your salary reaches your bank account. For the 2026/27 tax year, the personal allowance remains at £12,570, the basic rate band covers earnings up to £50,270 at 20%, and the higher rate of 40% applies from £50,271 to £125,140. Earnings above £125,140 are taxed at the additional rate of 45%, and the personal allowance tapers to zero for income above £100,000.
National Insurance is a separate mandatory contribution that funds the state pension and certain benefits. Employees pay Class 1 NICs at 8% on earnings between £12,570 and £50,270, and 2% on earnings above that threshold. Employers also pay 13.8% on top, which does not come out of your pay but affects total employment cost. Combined with income tax, a worker earning £50,000 takes home roughly £38,500 — about 77% of gross salary.
This calculator converts your UK salary between all standard pay frequencies and shows both unadjusted and holiday-adjusted figures.
