To find the sale price after a percentage discount, use: Sale Price = Original × (1 − Discount% / 100). Savings = Original × (Discount% / 100). For example, 20% off $79.99: Sale Price = $79.99 × 0.80 = $63.99. Savings = $79.99 × 0.20 = $16.00.
This calculator also works in reverse: given the original price and the sale price, it finds the discount percentage applied. Formula: Discount% = ((Original − Sale) / Original) × 100.
Quick mental math: for 10% off, move the decimal one place left. 10% of $49.90 = $4.99. For 20%, double that: $9.98. For 25% off, divide by 4: $49.90 ÷ 4 = $12.48 off.
Sale Price = Original × (1 − Discount% / 100)
| Original | Discount | Savings | Sale Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | 10% | $10.00 | $90.00 |
| $100 | 25% | $25.00 | $75.00 |
| $79.99 | 20% | $16.00 | $63.99 |
| $120 | 15% | $18.00 | $102.00 |
| $50 | 30% | $15.00 | $35.00 |
| $200 | 40% | $80.00 | $120.00 |
| $49.99 | 50% | $25.00 | $24.99 |
| $299 | 10% | $29.90 | $269.10 |
