The area of a parallelogram is base times perpendicular height: A = b × h. The key word is "perpendicular" — the height must be measured at a right angle to the base, not along the slanted side. If you lean a rectangle sideways into a parallelogram, the area stays the same as long as the base and perpendicular height are unchanged.
When you know two adjacent sides and the angle between them, use: A = a × b × sin(θ). A rectangle is a special parallelogram where θ = 90° and sin(90°) = 1, so the formula reduces to A = a × b. This calculator supports both methods.
