Basis Points (BPS) Calculator

Reviewed by CalcMulti Editorial Team·Last updated: ·Percentage & Ratio Hub

A basis point (bp or bps) is one-hundredth of one percentage point: 1 bp = 0.01% = 0.0001 as a decimal. Basis points are the standard unit for small interest rate and yield changes in finance, avoiding ambiguity when rates are themselves expressed as percentages.

Common central bank moves: 25 bps = 0.25%, 50 bps = 0.50%, 75 bps = 0.75%, 100 bps = 1.00%. Mortgage spreads, bond yields, and fee differences are routinely quoted in bps. "The yield spread widened by 40 bps" means 0.40 percentage points.

This calculator converts in both directions: enter basis points to get %, decimal, and percentage points; or enter a percentage to get the equivalent in basis points.

Formula

1 basis point = 0.01% = 0.0001 | BPS = Percentage × 100 | Percentage = BPS / 100
